The sun receded and the grey abounded…not in the sky but rather in the hair of reining Parlee Beach 7s Men’s Champions: The Moncton Grey Tide. The event was a resounding success for all teams involved, and the Old Boys team proved the adage that “Age and wisdom will always beat youth and enthusiasm”. Winner of the women’s division was RHS who fielded a strong team on the day. The entire Moncton Black Tide club would like to extend our gratitude to our sponsors K945, Sparx Fitness, Parlee Beach and the Bayou.

Rugby Canada Clinic & Meet and Greet – Friday July 5 @ Rocky Stone Field, 5pm
The Moncton Black Tide Rugby Football Club has organized a very exciting event at Rocky Stone Field this Friday July 5th, 2013. “This is an accomplishment that we are very proud of as we strengthen Moncton’s relationship with Rugby Canada” says past President Ali Massoudi.
Rocky Stone field will be the place to be this Friday evening if you want to meet some of Rugby Canada’s ‘rock stars’! The event will kick off at 5pm with a 2 hour coaching clinic followed by a dinner and fireside chat with the some of our sports finest. Guests from Rugby Canada include: Gareth Rees, former Team Canada Captain and IRB Hall-Of-Famer (only Canadian with this Honour); Jebb Sinclair and Chauncey O’Toole (professional International Rugby Players both from NB), Mike Chu, GM Operations and High Performance Coach from Team Canada (formally with New Zealand Rugby Union) amongst others. These elite athletes will be spending time coaching our youth and senior players and community friends while giving out some promotional items and signing autographs; Invites have been sent to all NB clubs and high-school coaches.
For over 30 years the Moncton Rugby Club (“Black Tide”) has been serving our community by engaging young and old, male and female of all shapes and sizes in one of the world’s most inclusive sports. “The beauty of this sport is that we need people of all shapes and sizes for various positions and being a not-for-profit organization we log hours upon hours of community service every year, which does sadly go unnoticed. Our club presently has 200 registered players approx 50% are youth and a slightly higher percentage are females. Moreover all the high-school teams in the area have at least one coach from our club and thus our reach is approx 500 players not including their friends and family in the Greater Moncton Area alone. We have been a pillar in the community for years, and our family extends farther than people can imagine, this event will raise our profile and give us some long overdue attention. We would like to thank our event sponsor TD Commercial Banking for their support of our youth” – Ali Massoudi.
Come and learn all the new techniques and hear some great stories from the best. Tickets for the event are $25 (includes the dinner, the coaching, some promotional items and autographs!) and can be purchased from Ali Massoudi at alimassoudi@hotmail.com or for more information please visit our website at www.monctonrfc.com or Face Book group: Moncton Black Tide Rugby.

Women Rally to Beat Saint John Irish 32-12
The Black Tide Women’s second game of the season did not start as planned. The ladies gave up a try right from the start, which could have unbalanced the team and turned the gameplan upside down. Rather than get rattled, the women responded in kind with a penalty from the boot of Kiersten Steeves. Rookie Sydney Phelan capitalized on defensive lapses from the Irish to touch down twice for the Black Tide. The Irish were able to gain momentum with 2 tries, and the game was anyone’s to be won. After a 20-minute see-saw battle, captain Katuscya Gauvin marked 2 converted tries to put the game out of reach of the Irish. After a tough day at the office, the ladies emerged victorious 32-12.
Ladies Hold SJ Trojans Scorless in Home Opener Win
The Black Tide Ladies started the season in fine form, not conceding a single point against their cross-province rivals the Saint John Trojans. The Trojans put up some stern defensive goal-line stands, but were unable to withstand the powerful scrums led by Katie Robertson or the ball-distribution by the ever-crafty backline leader and captain Katuscya Gauvin. At full-time, the home opener finished with a 30-0 victory in favor of Moncton.
The ladies aim to continue their success when they next take on the Saint John Irish on Saturday June 29 @ 11am in S-J.
Women’s Home Opener vs SJ Trojans: Sat June 22 @ Odyssee School, 11am

The Women will kick off the 1st league game of the season vs rivals Saint John Trojans at Odyssee School at 11am Saturday June 22.
