Both the men’s and women’s teams traveled to Rothesay this past Saturday, June 7th to take part in the 31st annual Saint John Trojans Walter Ellis Memorial Tournament.
The men played in their first 15s games of the season in the tournament and went 3 and 0 before lightning canceled the tournament’s final game. The men used their size advantage, kept the ball tight and played great defense all day. They defeated rivals Fredericton 14-3, Belleisle 19-5, and Saint John Trojans U20 7-0.
The women defeated the Saint Irish before competing in a league game versus the Trojans second side, winning 22-0. Tries were scored by veteran players Katuscya Gauvin, Jen Miller, Sarah Woods and Black Tide novice, Kianna Beers. Katuscya Gauvin scored the sole convert. The women later went on to defeat the Provincial U18 women’s side before the tournament was cancelled due to thunder showers. The women’s regular season record improves to 3-0, with league games this week scheduled for Thursday, July 12, 7pm at the Fredericton Loyalists field and Saturday, July 14th, 1pm versus Woodstock at MacNaughton High School.
Congratulations Black Tide!
