Moncton Area Well Represented on Provincial U18 Girls Rugby Team

A positive reflection on the provincial high school rugby girls championship being competed for by two Moncton teams last year, the number of Moncton area girls represented on the U18 provincial team has increased from 2 BMHS players last year to include 10 girls this year.

Travel distance and restrictions no doubt limited the total number of local athletes able to attend as the majority of training and games do occur in the Saint John/Fredericton Area of the province.

The following 9 players have been selected as a part of the 2015 U18 Spruce Women 15’s Team.

Ally Jones Moncton High
Brett Whalen McNaughton
Celine Hebert ODC
Coline Ramade ODC
Emily Donelle ODC
Jayde Olscamp Moncton High
Julie Cullinan McNaughton
Maya Montiel Mathieu Martin
Olivia Cormier Moncton High

To illustrate the strength of talent in the area you may notice that Riverview, Harrison Trimble, Tantramar and JMA aren’t represented, and I would like to think that is a result of athletes being unavailable to try out.  Some extremely talented players are present on all those sides.

This list also no doubt excludes a lot of “new to rugby” athletes.  Those competing in their first year are often working against a sharpe learning curve.  The talent pool present and on the rise in our region of South East new Brunswick is deep and growing quickly.

We look forward to these girls suiting up for the Senior Provincial Champions, Black Tide, in the future, and are excited to see the quality of the Black Tide U18 Girl 7’s team this summer.
